The 2005 Upper Deck Past Time Pennants "Best Base Card Countdown" continues. Someday I'll come up with a better name for this, the acronym BBCC doesn't really flow...
#84: Keith Hernandez
Two things of note with this card. One: Hernandez is rockin' a mean 80's 'stache. Two: Hernandez's arms sure look ripped...almost too ripped. If he played twenty years later I think people would be asking him questions.
#83: Jim Rice
Another standard action shot, though this one ranks a bit higher than some of the others because you can see the intensity in Rice's eyes. The amount of focus and determination that is required to hit a round baseball with a round stick of wood is something that most of us take for granted in our superstars. Sometimes a simple photo like this is all you need to remember why you aren't a big leaguer... Heck, I'm lucky to .500 in a slow pitch softball league...nevermind trying to connect on a 90 mph pitch with movement.
#82: Gary Carter
The Carter/Rice battle was a close one but I gave the nod to Carter because I happen to like the framing of the action shot better here. Sometimes a close up is nice (though never to the extreme that FOX sports does it), other times it's better to scale back a bit. As far as I'm concerned, you still get all the intensity in the eyes in Carter's card but you also a get a better feel for the entire player and play. Advantage: Carter.

Note: The card number is the number in parenthesis after the player.
